Hi All,
May was another huge month at the Many Hands Project. We delivered 200 sandwiches, from classics PB&J and Ham and swiss to club sandwiches and Italian hoagies. Thanks to all who cooked, donated or supported us!
But there’s no time to rest on our laurels. Sorry for the late notice but … June is Mexican Food Month! This weekend, June 16-18, we are looking for willing chefs to create their favorite Mexican delicacies. Mexican food can mean many things- authentic time-honored family recipes, American takes on south of the border classics, and even crazy modern fusion! (my current favorite Mexican fusion is the Mumbai quesadilla at Masti in Decatur)
As for me, I am an unapologetic fan of Mexican culture. Mexicans value family and food and parties and … futbol is life! Mexican families love to get together and laugh and play and argue… they remind me so much of Italians! And Mexican cuisine is one of my favorites. It’s savory and cheesy and makes for great comfort food.
This week I’m making a few of my favorites including a spicy, hearty chili with beef, sausage and peppers, a healthy take on arroz con pollo, and my version of elote.
If you can cook this week, we really need more meals. If you’re busy this weekend or don’t care for Mexican food, we can always use groceries, packaging, etc. We also have venmo now @ManyHandsProject. Anything you can give will be put to good use.
Please let me know if you can help this month. Many of our friends and neighbors here in Atlanta are hurting. Food insecurity is on the rise and you can help make a difference in someone’s life.
