Hello fam!

I want to take a moment to rave about some of our recent successes here at the Many Hands Project.

– In July we went crazy with BBQ season and provided over 300 meals- hot dogs, hamburgers, grilled chicken and shrimp, as well as hundreds of side dishes.

– In August we donated 60 children’s backpacks stuffed with school supplies. In addition, we delivered 100 “first day of school” PB&J sandwiches.

– Last week, we got a bread donation from a local bakery and we made another 85 sandwiches.

This is incredibly exciting and thanks to all of those who continue to support us. And if you haven’t yet, September would be a great time to start!

September is Asian cuisine month. I’m not gonna sit here and tell you that we had a lot of Asian cuisine in our house. In fact, other than our annual trip to Benihana’s, I’m not sure I had ever tried Asian food. As I got older (and more worldly) my taste buds changed and so did my diet.

First off… What is Asian food? Over 4 billion people in 49 countries call Asia home and hundreds if not thousands of cultures have their own version of “Asian food”. Think about those meals, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Korean, Thai, and Vietnamese just to name a few. But what about Cambodian, Filipino and Indonesian foods? Equally delicious!

Asian cuisine is all about diversity. Asian food is spicy, sweet, chewy, sour, sticky, pungent, crunchy, savory and incredibly flavorful. It can be a comfort food, a culinary adventure, a new cultural experience and a late night street food.

I’m a sucker for drunken noodles, sashimi, and bahn mi sandwiches. I love spicy yellow curries, udon noodles and any food with the word vindaloo in the name!

I will be running around picking up pre-made meals and food donations on Friday Sept 8th. On the 9th we will be cooking at our house from 12-4. My friend and MHP board member, Anil, is going to show us how to make Chicken Biryani! We will need help plating and packaging foods and lots of food and beverages will be consumed. Sunday 9/10 at noon, everything will be delivered to Feeding GA Families.

Please consider joining us, helping us or supporting us. Many Hands is making a small dent in Atlanta’s hunger problem but we could be doing so much more. Small donations through Venmo really help, as do grocery donations. But more than anything we want you to cook, with or without us! Take the time to make something with care and love. Something that will give another person joy and maybe a little hope. You can do it!

As always, please reach out if you’re in the area and can help.
